Postcard #03: The Moon Is Closed Tonight
A lunar departure terminal after midnight. The board says the shuttle is only a little late. Through the glass, it is already on fire.
Postcard #03: The Moon Is Closed Tonight
The board is the only thing in the terminal that sounds sure of itself. MINOR DELAY, in amber split-flap letters, while the shuttle on the horizon is already coming apart in a quiet fire.
Nobody runs. A child holds the glass. An adult draws them back. The staff keep working under fluorescent light, as if a closed moon were a schedule problem and not a view.
Outside, smoke moves the way it does when gravity is only a suggestion. Inside, the floor keeps the amber and the red. The postcard is mailed anyway, from a gate that will not open tonight.
